Girls BaSKETBALL

On January 29th, 2022, the lady Alma Cardinals went toe-to-toe against Maywood-Hayes Center in McCook. It was a hard-fought battle back and forth between both teams.   In the end the Maywood Hayes Center Wolves were able to outlast the Cardinals for the RPAC Championship trophy.  

In the first quarter, Senior, Carlee Stuhmer made a free throw and scored a 2 pointer. Junior, Addison Neal, made 2 points. Sophomore, Addison Siebels made one of two free throws. Sophomore, Riley Scott made a 2 pointer. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 8 to 10 with the Cardinals trailing by 2.

Alma was able to get their offense moving with some quick up-the-floor plays in the second quarter adding 12 points to the tally.  Neal made a 3 pointer. Siebels made 2 free throws and 6 points in the paint. Carlee Stuhmer was 0-2 at the line.  Some quick buckets at the end of the quarter had Alma trailing by 1 at halftime with a score of 20 to 21. 

The third quarter was a tough quarter for the Cardinals with the Wolves having some hot perimeter shooting.  They had 17 points with 3-3 pointers and 100% free throw shooting for the quarter.  Alma kept fighting and kept the game close with some free throw shooting.   Carlee Stuhmer made a three-pointer and Addison Siebels a field goal for the only buckets in the quarter.  Carlee was 2-2 from the line. Addison Siebels and Riley Scott were both 1-2 from the line and Kaylee Baker was 0-2 from the line.  This brought the third-quarter score 29 to 38 advantage to the Wolves. 

Although Alma played tough defense in the fourth quarter, Alma was unable to put a lot of points on the board.  They scored 5 points in the quarter.  Riley Scott drove and made the layup and got the and 1 but was unable to get the free throw to fall.  Abbi Fox added a putback for 2 points and Kaylee Baker went 1-2 from the line.  Addison Neal was 0-2 from the line. The girls continued to work hard and play tough defense throughout the game.  At the end of the game, Maywood-Hayes Center took the win with the final score of 34  to 49.   Alma was the RPAC East Champions and the Runner-Up in the Overall RPAC.  Congrats girls!
